TV Adventurer Guy Martin Handed Six-Month Driving Ban for Speeding Violations
Television personality and renowned speed enthusiast Guy Martin has been disqualified from driving for a period of six months following two separate incidents where he exceeded the speed limit while riding his motorbike. The 44-year-old former racing driver, best known for presenting programmes such as Speed With Guy Martin, faced prosecution by Northamptonshire and Leicestershire police forces after being captured on speed cameras.
Details of the Speeding Offences
Legal correspondence revealed that Martin admitted to riding his Honda motorbike at 46 miles per hour on the A50 near Leicester, where the speed limit was set at 40 mph. This initial infraction occurred on July 15 last year, just before 5 pm. Subsequently, on March 19 this year at 9:24 am, he was recorded travelling at 78 mph along the A43 near Brackley, an area where a temporary 50 mph limit was in place due to HS2 roadworks.
Court documents indicate that these violations resulted in Martin accumulating at least 12 penalty points on his driving licence, triggering the mandatory disqualification under the totting-up procedure. He accepted the six-month ban without contest and was fined a total of £1,329, covering costs and victim surcharges.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
The prosecutions were handled through the Single Justice Procedure and adjudicated in private by a magistrate. Sentencing took place at Loughborough Magistrates’ Court last week, where Martin’s legal representatives confirmed he would not seek to avoid the ban by arguing exceptional hardship. A partner at law firm Chattertons stated on Martin’s behalf: "He apologises to the court for his offending. As a consequence of being convicted of the two offences, Mr Martin will fall to be totted up. He will not be opposing the totting up six-month disqualification."
Guy Martin’s Background and Career
Martin is a celebrated figure in the world of motorsport, having achieved 17 podium finishes at the Isle of Man TT race during his career as a professional motorbike racer. His pursuit of speed records is well-documented; in 2016, he attempted to break the two-wheeled world land speed record and has set world records for the fastest tractor, speediest soapbox, and fastest speed on a gravity-powered snow sled.
Beyond his racing exploits, Martin has built a reputation as a daring television adventurer. His documentaries have included perilous journeys, such as a 2023 visit to Colombia where he was shot in the stomach, kidnapped, and subjected to water-boarding. In 2025, while filming in Vietnam, he encountered an unexploded US bomb. More recently, in January last year, he showcased his versatility in the series Guy Martin: Proper Jobs, taking on the role of a trawler worker by hauling nets and gutting fish.
This driving ban marks a significant setback for the speed demon, whose career has been defined by high-velocity pursuits and adventurous television projects. The six-month disqualification will undoubtedly impact his mobility, though it remains to be seen how this will affect his future endeavours in both racing and broadcasting.
