Teens knock worker unconscious with bottle in East Kilbride row

A filling station worker was knocked unconscious when he was struck on the head with a bottle during a late-night row with two teenagers, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard. The youths, aged 16 and 17, turned violent after being told to leave the garage shop in East Kilbride.

Incident at Morrisons Premises

The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted assaulting a male employee at the Morrisons premises in Lindsayfield Avenue on June 9 last year. Prosecutor Daisy Bentley said the man was working alone when the teenagers entered the filling station shop shortly after midnight. They were asked to leave, and he shoved them out of the door.

Ms Bentley told the court: "One of the youths lifted the employee and threw him to the ground. The other struck him on the head with a glass bottle, causing the bottle to shatter. The man slumped unconscious to the ground. He wasn't moving for about a minute."

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Both accused left the area, and a member of the public contacted the police. The victim was conveyed to hospital, where he was treated for a cut to the top of his head and discharged. Ms Bentley said the 16-year-old was traced the next day and was "remorseful" when he spoke to the police. She stated: "He said he couldn't remember anything because he was drunk. He was sorry and didn't mean to do it." The second accused was traced on June 12, 2025.

Sheriff John Hamilton KC deferred sentence on the pair until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment. They were allowed to remain on bail.
