Romeo Beckham Fined for Phone Use and Loose Dog in Car

Romeo Beckham has been fined and handed three penalty points on his licence after being caught using his mobile phone while driving with a loose dog in his Porsche 911.

Incident Details

The 23-year-old model, son of David and Victoria Beckham, was pulled over by police in Westminster last September. An officer spotted him using his phone with both hands instead of the steering wheel while waiting at a red light.

Court papers reveal that a woman in the passenger seat was also looking at her phone, with an unrestrained dog on her lap. The officer stated that Beckham was distracted and lacked proper control of the vehicle.

Court Proceedings

Romeo was convicted of being a driver not in a position to have proper control at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 11. He was ordered to pay a £440 fine, £130 in costs, and a £176 victim surcharge. Magistrate Phillip Jordan imposed the penalties. The court noted that Romeo did not enter a plea when written to.

Police Account

Metropolitan Police Pc Luke Short stopped Beckham on September 16 last year at around 11:20 am on Victoria Street, Westminster. In a statement, the officer said: "As I passed the vehicle on its nearside, I looked down to my right and noted that there was an unrestrained dog sitting on the female passenger’s lap. The female had her head down and was holding a mobile phone. I looked across at the driver. I saw that he too had his head tilted down and appeared to be looking down at a mobile phone he was holding low in his lap, near the base of the steering wheel. I could see that he was scrolling on the device with his thumbs."

The officer decided to offer the driver words of advice concerning the insecure load, namely the dog.
