A man in his 50s sustained serious facial injuries following an alleged attack with a glass bottle in Sunderland city centre in the early hours of Thursday. Emergency services were called to Park Lane at around 1:50 a.m. after reports of an injured man.
Arrest Made
Police arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in police custody. Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Police Statement
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At about 1.50am today (Thursday) we received a report of a man injured in the Park Lane area of Sunderland city centre. Emergency services attended where it was found he had sustained injuries consistent with having been caused by a glass bottle. The man, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment of serious facial injuries. A short time later a man – aged in his 30s – was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He currently remains in police custody."
Ambulance Response
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a person injured in Sunderland city centre at 1.49am on 16 July. We dispatched an ambulance crew, who took one patient to hospital for further treatment."
