Two young children have tragically died in a house fire in Wolverhampton, West Midlands Police have confirmed.
Details of the Incident
Emergency services were called to a property on Mason Street at approximately 8:30 PM on Friday evening. Firefighters from Bilston, West Bromwich, and Bloxwich Fire Stations attended the scene, with six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entering the building.
Upon entry, they rescued two young children and immediately provided emergency care. However, despite the best efforts of all emergency personnel, the children were pronounced dead at the scene.
Other Occupants
Two other children and a woman had already evacuated the property before the arrival of emergency services. They were assessed by ambulance staff but did not require hospital treatment and were discharged at the scene.
West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances, three paramedic officers, HART paramedics, a MERIT trauma team, and a critical care car from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. Medics worked rapidly to administer advanced life support to both children, but tragically, they could not be saved.
Investigation Underway
Police have cordoned off the scene, and officers are working with fire service colleagues to establish the exact circumstances of the fire. The property sustained extensive damage, and the scene is expected to remain in place for some time as enquiries continue.
Detectives have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said, 'Our thoughts are with the children's loved ones and all those impacted by this heartbreaking incident. We thank the community for their support with the ongoing investigation.'
