A large fire that broke out at a waste processing site in Trafford Park overnight is now under control, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS). Crews were called to Tenax Road at 11:45pm on Friday, May 1, to tackle a blaze involving a significant quantity of scrap metal.
Ten fire engines from across Greater Manchester attended the scene, along with specialist appliances. Firefighters used a turntable ladder, two jets, and six ground monitors to extinguish the flames. All staff members were accounted for, and no casualties were reported.
Station manager Tony Morgan confirmed that the fire was under control by Saturday afternoon. He said, 'The crews have worked incredibly hard to get the incident under control so that the smoke is no longer causing any problems to the local community.' Roads around Trafford Park that were closed overnight have now reopened.
Residents in surrounding areas had reported an 'awful stink' earlier in the morning. Images from the scene showed charred scrap metal at the site. GMFRS continues to work with the on-site team to resolve the incident fully.
