Police Granted Extra 36 Hours to Question Three in Wayne Reid Murder Probe
Three suspects questioned for 36 more hours in Reid murder

Police in Northern Ireland have secured a crucial extension to continue their interrogation of three individuals arrested in connection with the killing of Wayne Reid in Coleraine, County Londonderry.

Court Grants Extended Questioning Time

On Sunday, 18 January 2026, detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) were granted a court extension of an additional 36 hours to question two women and one man. The suspects include women aged 39 and 33, and a 41-year-old man, all of whom were arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday.

This legal authorisation allows officers more time to pursue critical lines of enquiry following the grim discovery last week. Wayne Reid, 43, was found dead at an address in the Society Court area of Coleraine, prompting a major murder investigation.

Multiple Arrests in Ongoing Investigation

The investigation has seen a total of eight people detained by police. In a significant development on Saturday, 17 January, a 19-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of murder.

As of Sunday, five individuals remain in police custody. Alongside the three being questioned under the new extension, two women, aged 45 and 38, and a 33-year-old man are also still being held.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder earlier in the investigation, has been released on bail pending further police inquiries.

Community Awaits Answers

The case continues to send shockwaves through the local community in Coleraine. Forensic officers were pictured entering an apartment building on Society Street in the days following the discovery, highlighting the intensive scene-of-crime work undertaken.

The PSNI has not released further details regarding a potential motive or the circumstances leading to Mr. Reid's death. The extended questioning period indicates the complexity and active nature of the probe as officers work to establish the full facts.
