Two Teenagers Face Murder Charges After Fatal Stabbing in Guildford Park
Two teenage boys have been formally charged with murder following the tragic death of a 15-year-old boy who was stabbed in a park in Surrey. The victim, identified as Luis Gabriel Guembes, lost his life in a woodland area off Lido Road within Stoke Park, Guildford, on Monday evening at approximately 6.10pm.
Despite the immediate and concerted efforts of police officers, paramedics, and members of the public—including staff from a nearby leisure centre—Luis was pronounced dead at the scene. The two suspects, aged 15 and 16, cannot be named for legal reasons due to their status as minors. In addition to the murder charge, they have also been charged with conspiracy to rob and possession of a bladed article.
Victim Remembered as Talented Young Footballer
Luis Gabriel Guembes, who was originally from Peru, was a pupil at All Hallows Catholic School in Farnham. He was also a dedicated footballer, playing for Churt Juniors Football Club's under-16 team. The club confirmed his passing in a heartfelt statement posted on its website.
'It is with deep sadness that Churt Juniors Football Club share the news of the unexpected death of Luis Guembes, one of our Under 16 players,' the statement read. 'This shocking loss has deeply affected our whole club and Luis will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Luis's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.'
The club further noted that they have been working with relevant organisations throughout the week to ensure appropriate support and care is available for players, parents, and coaches, acknowledging the particularly distressing impact on his teammates.
Police Investigation and Community Appeal
A spokesperson for Surrey Police confirmed that Luis's family continue to receive support from specialist officers, with the force's thoughts remaining with them during this harrowing period. The two teenage suspects are scheduled to appear at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
Surrey Police have launched a public appeal for information, urging anyone with details relevant to the investigation to come forward, quoting Operation Eastville. Detective Chief Superintendent Debbie White emphasised the urgency of this appeal on Tuesday afternoon, calling on witnesses to step forward 'as a matter of urgency'.
'We appreciate that this incident will have caused shock and concern amongst our local communities, and we want to reassure you that we are working at pace to establish the circumstances of the boy's death, gather as much evidence as possible and identify those responsible,' she stated.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Andy Jenkins reinforced this message, stating: 'I would like to reassure them that our officers are working around the clock to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident, gather as much evidence as possible, and identify and bring those responsible to justice.'
Authorities have clarified that they are currently uncertain about the precise circumstances leading to Luis's death and have requested that the public refrain from speculation to avoid hindering the ongoing investigation.
