A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police provided a statement, saying: "A 16-year-old boy has been arrested as officers continue to investigate a stabbing in Leicester's Granby Street yesterday. The boy, who was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder, remains in custody."
The force has launched a public appeal for information to assist their enquiries. They are particularly keen to obtain any relevant footage that could shed light on the events leading up to the attack.
Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward. This includes individuals who may have witnessed the incident or who possess mobile phone, CCTV, or dashcam footage of the area around Granby Street at the time of the attack.
"We are continuing to appeal for anyone who can help police with their ongoing enquiries to get in touch," the police spokesperson added.
Restaurant Response and Reopening
Simon Wallis, the chief executive of German Doner Kebab, addressed the incident on Friday. He stated: "We are aware of an incident that took place yesterday in Leicester city centre. Our thoughts are with those affected."
The GDK Leicester branch was temporarily closed to allow for a full cooperation with the police investigation. The company confirmed that after being advised by authorities, the restaurant was permitted to reopen on Friday evening.
Wallis emphasised that "the safety of our team and customers remains our top priority, and we continue to support the authorities in any way we can."
The investigation by Leicestershire Police remains active as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
