Fox News star Jesse Watters claimed he was yanked away from the Royal Family after making an off-color joke in the presence of Queen Camilla. Watters, 47, rubbed shoulders with King Charles III and the Queen as they attended a state dinner inside the White House on Tuesday.
According to the host, he was introduced to the monarch who had 'no idea' who he was before telling the King 'I'm on Fox and I have two shows'. He added: 'And so we go down, and there's the Queen, and I said, "Well, how was the beehive?" And she goes, "It was very good. No one got stung".'
'And then I said, "Well, you know, it was Washington D.C., you know, if the bees don't get you, the guns will", And then this woman just starts pulling me away from them.' The comment from Watters came just a few days after a gunman stormed the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington DC. President Donald Trump was present at the event and had to be rushed to safety after suspected gunman Cole Tomas Allen opened fire.
Watters added: 'I don't know what I was saying. Ugh. I started mumbling.' He made the comments about his wisecrack on The Five alongside fellow Fox host Greg Gutfeld, who also appeared at the event and made a joke about the Queen. Gutfeld described King Charles as being 'nice', before adding: 'I predicted exactly what the conversation was. I go to [Gutfeld's wife Elena Moussa], I go, 10 to one, Trump looks at Charles and goes, "Oh, here, this guy, he's great. He's got the No. 1 show on late night. You'll love him".'
'And I walk in and Trump goes, "Ah, there he is. He's got the No. 1 show late." And the king was like, "Oh, do you? Where is this late show that you talk about"? And I go, "It's on Fox",' before adding that he then 'took off with Camilla just to horse around'. At the state dinner, King Charles presented Trump with the original bell from a British Second World War submarine called 'HMS Trump'.
In a masterclass of soft diplomacy, Charles unveiled the bell from the Royal Navy T-class vessel, which launched in 1944 and fought during the war in the Pacific. Trump hailed the King as 'the greatest king in my book' when he said farewell to his guest as the state visit drew to a close on Thursday. The submarine, which is the Royal Navy's only ship to ever bear the name 'Trump', later served in Australia and was scrapped in 1971 - but the bell was saved.
The gift by Charles comes amid a worsening UK-US relationship following verbal attacks by Donald Trump on the British military, its Nato allies and Sir Keir Starmer. But the President got to his feet and appeared emotional when the King revealed he had brought him the personal gift during his speech at the White House state dinner. Trump hailed the King as 'the greatest king in my book' when he said farewell to his guest as the state visit drew to a close. Charles and Camilla visited the White House for the final time to say goodbye to the president and first lady, waiting at the historic building's South Portico overlooking the famous lawns. As the foursome posed for a picture in front of the gathered media, Mr Trump pointed at Charles and told the press: 'He's a great king. The greatest king in my book.'
