Married Music Teacher Gives Birth Amidst Sexual Abuse Charges Involving Teenage Pupil
A married music teacher accused of engaging in persistent sexual abuse with a teenage schoolboy has given birth to a baby that is allegedly fathered by her victim. The case has sent shockwaves through the educational community in Western Australia.
Arrest and Serious Charges
Naomi Tekea Craig, aged 33, was arrested on January 6 following allegations of persistent sexual conduct with a teenage boy in Mandurah, a coastal city located approximately 70 kilometres south of Perth. The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2024 and 2025.
At the time of her arrest, Ms Craig was charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, possessing child exploitation material, and persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16. Court documents have revealed she is facing three additional offences that have not been publicly disclosed, which is standard procedure in cases involving sexual offences against children.
School Employment and Maternity Leave
Ms Craig was employed at Frederick Irwin Anglican School in Meadow Springs, a private co-educational institution catering to students from kindergarten through to Year 12. She had been on maternity leave at the time of her arrest, as she was pregnant with her second child.
It was revealed this week that she has recently given birth. Significantly, DNA testing of a sample from her placenta may have established a claimed connection between the newborn and her alleged victim. The alleged victim is understood to no longer be a pupil at the school.
School's Response and Parental Communication
Following the arrest, Principal Tracey Gray sent a letter to parents and carers confirming that the alleged victim is not a current student. "I regret to inform you that a teacher from our school has been arrested by police and charged with child-related offences," Ms Gray wrote. "The teacher has been instructed not to attend the school. The information available to the school suggests that there is no need for any concern for any children at the school."
Ms Craig, who was known to students by her marital surname Woods, was actively involved in school music events, including choirs, concerts, and community carol performances. A school newsletter dated December 10 listed her as being on maternity leave, though this has since been removed from the school's website.
Background and Personal Life
According to an online work biography, Ms Craig began her employment at the school in 2024, having previously worked as an independent private music tutor. She is a married mother who also uses the surname Woods.
Ms Craig grew up in Mandurah and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Western Australia, followed by a Diploma of Education from Edith Cowan University. She later relocated to Melbourne, where she married her long-term partner in an elaborate ceremony at Stones of the Yarra Valley on October 8, 2019.
The couple welcomed their first child, a boy, in 2022 while still living in Victoria. Maternity shoot photographs from March 2022 show Ms Craig posing on a Mornington Peninsula beach. Property records indicate the family moved back to the Mandurah region between late 2022 and 2023, purchasing a four-bedroom property in the area in June of last year.

Naomi Tekea Craig has not yet entered a plea for any of the charges against her. She is scheduled to appear at Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27 for her next hearing. The case continues to develop as authorities proceed with their investigation and legal processes.
