Major Church Fire in Southall Engulfs Multiple Floors
London Fire Brigade deployed a significant emergency response to tackle a severe fire at a church in Southall, West London. The incident, which broke out on South Road, required 10 fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
Intense Firefighting Operation Underway
Fire crews from Southall, Ealing, Heston, and surrounding stations raced to the scene after receiving over 20 calls from the public alerting authorities to the fire. The first call was logged at 9:30 PM, with crews mobilised immediately to address the escalating situation.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade confirmed that "part of the ground floor, second floor and roof" were ablaze, indicating the fire's extensive spread throughout the building. The busy South Road remained closed in both directions between Park Road and High Street as firefighters worked to contain the inferno.
Specialist Equipment Deployed
To combat the flames from above, the Brigade deployed two of its 32-metre turntable ladders, a key tactic in managing such large-scale fires. Eyewitness footage captured by Gurwinder Singh highlighted the intensity of the blaze, with the church steeple notably affected by the flames.
The firefighting efforts proved successful, with the Brigade confirming the fire was brought under control by 12:38 AM. Despite the severity of the incident, no injuries have been reported at this stage.
Public Advisory and Ongoing Operations
Authorities have advised the public to continue avoiding the area to allow emergency services to operate safely. The closure of South Road is expected to remain in place as crews conduct further assessments and damping down operations.
