Six Hospitalised Including Child After Woolwich Fire

Six people, including a small child, were taken to hospital after a fire ripped through a three-storey apartment block in Woolwich, East London, in the early hours of Thursday. London Fire Brigade (LFB) received 26 calls about the blaze on Edge Hill at 1:35 am.

Details of the Incident

Fire crews from Plumstead, East Greenwich, Eltham, and other surrounding stations were dispatched to the scene. Approximately 60 firefighters worked to bring the flames under control, which they achieved just before 4 am. The fire affected two cars, a caravan, garages, and several flats.

Around 10 residents were evacuated from the building, and firefighters rescued six people. Five adults and one child suffering from smoke inhalation were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.

Impact and Response

An LFB statement said: "A number of flats were damaged due to the heat of the fire, while around three garages and all of the vehicles were completely destroyed. Around 10 residents were evacuated from the building and six people were rescued by firefighters. Five adults and one child suffering from smoke inhalation were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service."
