Rapist Convicted After Luring Woman with Fake Job Offer for Injured Sportsman

A rapist who sexually assaulted a woman after enticing her with a fabricated job opportunity to assist an injured sportsman has been found guilty, with police expressing serious concerns that he may be a prolific abuser with multiple victims. Gurwinder Singh, aged 37 and residing in Northolt, west London, now faces a substantial prison sentence following his conviction for a series of grave offences, including rape, attempted rape, assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of common assault.

Deceptive Tactics and Chilling Assault

In a calculated and predatory scheme, Singh lured his victim to a hotel in Paddington in June of last year under the false pretence of offering her employment as an assistant to an injured sportsman. To gain her trust, he initially impersonated a woman during WhatsApp conversations, then presented himself as a fellow care professional when they met at the hotel to discuss working arrangements and identification documents.

After leaving her alone in a room to await the supposed client, Singh returned, claiming to be the 'sportsman' himself. He proceeded to undress and demand a massage, which the woman refused. He then raped her, an act that has left her traumatised and unable to be identified for legal protection. Following the assault, she managed to flee the room and was assisted by two members of the public who came to her aid.

Attempt to Silence Victim and Police Investigation

In a chilling attempt to intimidate her into silence, Singh told the victim that the entire incident had been recorded and threatened to publish the footage online, making it 'go viral' if she reported the crime to the authorities, according to Scotland Yard. Despite this threat, the woman demonstrated remarkable courage by contacting Metropolitan Police detectives the very next day, which led to Singh's prompt arrest and subsequent conviction this week at Southwark Crown Court.

Detective Constable Lydia Webb, who led the investigation for the Met, praised the victim's bravery, stating: 'The victim in this case has shown incredible courage in coming forward and disclosing what happened to her – it is thanks to her bravery that Singh has been convicted and is unable to cause further harm.'

Police Fear Multiple Victims and Community Appeal

Investigators now strongly believe that Singh may have sexually assaulted or raped other women prior to this incident and are urgently appealing for any additional victims or witnesses to come forward. Painstaking investigative work since his arrest has revealed that Singh booked rooms at the same hotel on more than 100 occasions between December 2024 and August 2025, indicating a potential pattern of predatory behaviour.

Furthermore, evidence shows he engaged in conversations with numerous other women, falsely promising to help them find work. Officers are actively working to contact those who have had interactions with Singh on WhatsApp but are also making a broader public appeal following his conviction.

Police are particularly keen to hear from women within the Indian community who reside in the Hayes or Southall areas, as they suspect he may have specifically targeted this demographic. However, detectives are keeping an open mind and encourage anyone who has met or spoken to Singh online, or who possesses any information about his offending, to reach out.

DC Webb added: 'We believe that there may be other women who have been subject to Singh's crimes and we want to provide reassurance that any reports will be fully investigated and dealt with sensitively and with compassion. We recognise that coming forward can be a daunting experience, but would encourage victim-survivors to speak with us so they can get the support and help they very much deserve.'
