A Kent Police officer has died and his colleague is in a critical condition following a car crash while responding to an emergency call. The incident occurred on the A20 London Road near Farningham on Thursday evening.
Police Constable Bradley Corke, 27, died on Saturday from injuries sustained in the collision. The marked Ford Focus police car was travelling to an emergency incident in Swanley when it collided with a Volkswagen Scirocco at the junction with Button Street at around 7.45pm.
A member of the public in the second vehicle is receiving treatment for serious injuries. Kent Police described Pc Corke as a “popular colleague” who “selflessly gave up his life while trying to save the lives of others”.
Pc Corke, based in Tonbridge, joined the force in May 2022 and served in west Kent. Neil Mennie, chairman of Kent Police Federation, said officers were “absolutely heartbroken” and that the incident was a “horrific example of the risks police officers face”.
Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage. Anyone with information should contact the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538 quoting reference EW/AL/025/26.
