A major police investigation has been launched following an attempted kidnapping of a woman during an early morning walk in Wigan. The victim was reportedly grabbed and threatened by a man who tried to force her to go with him.
Details of the Terrifying Ordeal
The incident occurred on Central Park Way in the early hours of Thursday, January 9. The woman was targeted between 6:05 am and 6:20 am while she was out walking. According to police, the suspect attempted to force the woman to accompany him, but she managed to break free and flee from the area to safety.
Description of the Suspect and Police Appeal
The man immediately left the scene after the failed abduction. He is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing:
- Grey joggers
- Black trainers
- A yellow hi-vis vest
- A black beanie hat
Detective Sergeant Andrew Partington, of Greater Manchester Police's Wigan CID, sought to reassure the public. He stated: "Whilst we understand incidents of this nature are concerning, I want to reassure our communities that we take reports of this nature very seriously and the safety of the public is our top priority."
He confirmed that officers are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry and have implemented extra patrols in the local area.
