In a deeply distressing case, two parents have been formally charged with murder after their three-month-old son died from what authorities describe as "significant injuries." The incident has sent shockwaves through the community in north London, highlighting a tragic loss of young life.
Emergency Response to a Distressing Scene
Emergency services were urgently dispatched to a residential property on Kingsway in North Finchley, London, on Friday, January 30, at approximately 11:34 hours. Police and the London Ambulance Service responded to a report of an unresponsive baby boy, referred to as Baby A in official statements.
Upon arrival, paramedics performed emergency first aid at the scene in a desperate attempt to stabilise the infant. The baby was then rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries, but despite the relentless efforts of medical staff, he sadly passed away on Tuesday, February 17.
Arrests and Charges Following the Tragedy
The parents, identified as Dounia Chetaouat, aged 32, and Abdelkader Essid, aged 44, both residents of the Finchley area, were arrested on the same day as the incident on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. Their initial court appearance took place at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 2, where they were charged with causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child and remanded into custody.
Following the infant's death, the charges were escalated. On Wednesday, February 18, both parents were charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. They are scheduled to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 23, after 14:00 hours, as the legal proceedings continue to unfold.
