Motorcade Escort Ends in Serious Collision
A police officer from Maryville, Tennessee, is fighting for his life after a serious crash involving a state trooper while both were providing security for Vice President JD Vance's motorcade on Friday evening.
The incident occurred near the intersection of East Lamar Alexander Parkway and Merritt Road, where the motorcycle-riding Maryville officer collided with the Tennessee State Trooper's vehicle. Both law enforcement professionals had been assigned to protect the Vice President's convoy.
Emergency Response and Hospitalisation
The injured Maryville officer was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where medical staff listed him in critical condition. The state trooper involved in the collision also required hospital treatment for evaluation.
Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp made a public statement on Friday, expressing the department's concern. "We ask everyone to keep the officer, family, and the medical staff in your prayers," Chief Crisp said. "All of us at the Maryville Police Department appreciate the concern and outpouring of support from this incredible community."
Investigation Underway as Vance Attends Fundraiser
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed it is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash that left two of their own injured.
Vice President JD Vance was visiting East Tennessee for a private fundraising event that Friday evening, according to local reports from WBIR. The incident occurred while his motorcade was travelling through the area.
The White House and Tennessee Highway Patrol have been contacted for further comment regarding the incident that has left the law enforcement community in shock.
