Whitney Leavitt has revealed that she is leaving the hit reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The 32-year-old star made the announcement during her final Broadway performance of Chicago on Sunday, in a creative skit that involved a fellow actor holding a sign.
Broadway Announcement
In footage obtained by TMZ, Leavitt was still in character onstage when she noticed a sheet of paper another actor was holding. Reading the message aloud, she said: 'Oh, what is that? Let me see. Whitney Leavitt announces she's leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.' The revelation comes just weeks after she broke her silence regarding costar Taylor Frankie Paul's domestic violence scandal.
Successful Broadway Run
Leavitt made the announcement as she wrapped her highly successful run in Chicago, after it was revealed in late December that she would be playing Roxie Hart. Her performance broke the musical's box office records, achieving the highest weekly ticket sales in the show's 29-year history. Her dance partner from Dancing with the Stars, Mark Ballas, performed alongside her as Billy Flynn to her Roxie Hart.
Future Plans
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in March, Leavitt hinted at her departure, saying she was considering leaving the reality series to pursue her acting career. 'I'm figuring it out in real time,' she said. 'We're figuring it out together, but it feels like that's the trajectory of where it's going. I wouldn't be where I am without it, but it feels like it's time to challenge myself in other ways and fulfill these dreams and passions that I've been trying to get even before the show.'
Leavitt has been a full-time cast member on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives since the show premiered on Hulu in September 2024. However, her Broadway commitments caused her to miss part of the production for season five, which is currently filming. It remains unclear whether Leavitt will continue as a full-time cast member or be relegated to a guest role for the upcoming season.
Background on the Series
Late last month, filming for season five resumed after a temporary pause due to the domestic violence investigation involving Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. It was later revealed that the two exes and costars would not be filmed when cameras returned, though Paul's return to the series remains a possibility.
