Britney Spears has avoided jail after pleading guilty to a lesser charge following her arrest for driving under the influence. The pop star, 44, was arrested on 5 March for driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol. She was taken to Ventura County Main Jail, northwest of Los Angeles. At the time, a mysterious substance was found in her vehicle.
Court Hearing and Plea Bargain
In a court hearing today, her lawyer appeared on her behalf. Spears accepted a plea bargain that reduced the original charge of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and at least one drug to a wet reckless charge. The judge sentenced her to two months of probation and one day of jail time, which she has already served.
Additional Requirements
As part of the agreement, Spears must complete a three-month alcohol education program. She is also required to receive regular mental health support, including weekly sessions with a psychologist and appointments twice a month with a psychiatrist, according to reports.
