Police Find No Evidence of Reported Rape in Epsom

Surrey Police have stated that they have found no evidence to support a reported gang rape in Epsom, which led to protests in the town earlier this week. The force said it had reviewed extensive CCTV footage, interviewed potential witnesses, and conducted forensic investigations, but found no evidence of the offence as reported.

Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Grahame said the investigation into the report that a woman in her 20s was raped by a group of men on 11 April after leaving the Labyrinth Epsom nightclub is ongoing. The alleged attack was said to have occurred between 2am and 4am outside a Methodist church.

Grahame acknowledged speculation about the non-release of suspect descriptions, particularly regarding ethnicity, but said this was due to limited information. She also clarified that there was no evidence that asylum seekers or immigrants were involved.

Protesters gathered in Epsom on Wednesday demanding more details. The demonstration, which saw police carrying shields and wearing helmets, was promoted online by Danny Tommo, a former ally of far-right activist Tommy Robinson. The minister of a nearby church described the protests as intimidating.

Surrey Police have urged anyone with relevant information to contact them and said there will be an increased police presence in Epsom this weekend.
