A major murder investigation has been launched in Stafford town centre after a man was found dead with serious injuries on Corporation Street.
Staffordshire Police were called to the scene near the former Burton building at approximately 10:45pm on Tuesday night following reports of a seriously injured man in his 30s.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the victim was pronounced dead at the location. Police have confirmed they are treating the death as murder and have launched a full-scale investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
Detective Chief Inspector Lesley Fowler, from the force's major investigations department, is leading the enquiry. "A scene remains in place on Corporation Street and we're carrying out house-to-house enquiries as we try to establish the circumstances," she stated.
Forensic teams have been conducting detailed examinations at the crime scene throughout Wednesday, with Corporation Street remaining closed to both vehicles and pedestrians while investigations continue.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who were in the Corporation Street area between 9pm and 11pm on Tuesday evening.
"We're appealing for anyone with any information, or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around that time, to get in touch," DCI Fowler added.
Local residents and business owners have expressed shock at the incident in what is normally a busy part of the town centre.
