Police have launched a murder investigation after a teenage boy was found stabbed to death at a popular beauty spot in Guildford.
Emergency Response at Stoke Park
Officers were called to reports of a stabbing in woodland off Lido Road in Stoke Park, close to Guildford College, at approximately 6.10pm on Monday 19 January. Despite the immediate efforts of emergency services and members of the public who came to the boy's aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His age has not yet been released by authorities.
Major Crime Team Leading Investigation
The Surrey and Sussex Police major crime team is now leading the inquiry. No arrests have been made at this early stage. A significant police cordon remains in place around the wooded area, known locally as Peacock Wood and Wild Wood Adventure, and at the end of the Lido Road car park.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Andy Jenkins said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this desperately sad time." He acknowledged the shock and concern within the local community and sought to reassure residents.
"I would like to reassure them that our officers are working around the clock to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident, gather as much evidence as possible, and identify and bring those responsible to justice," he added.
Police Appeal for Key Witnesses
Detectives are urgently appealing for information from the public. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Lido Road, Parkway, and Stoke Park between 6pm and 6.20pm on Monday.
Investigators want to know:
- Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area?
- Did you witness anyone running from the woods around that time?
Any piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital to the investigation.
Access to the bowls clubs, Guilden Village student accommodation, and Stoke Park itself remains available, but the public can expect a heightened police presence in the area for some time. The A25 (Parkway) is unaffected.
