Manhunt Intensifies for Alleged Gunman After Triple Fatal Shooting in Australian Town
Police in New South Wales, Australia, have launched an urgent and extensive manhunt for Julian Ingram, a 37-year-old man also known as Pierpoint, following a horrific shooting incident that claimed three lives in the small town of Lake Cargelligo. The tragic event, which unfolded on Thursday, January 22, has left the local community in shock and prompted a massive police response.
Victims Identified in Tragic Shooting Spree
According to police reports and local media, the victims have been identified as Sophie Quinn, a 24-year-old pregnant woman, and her friend, John Harris, aged 32. The pair were allegedly shot while driving a car on Bokhara Street at approximately 4.30pm. In a further devastating development, it is reported that Ingram then travelled to a residence in the town and shot Sophie's aunt, Nerida Quinn, aged 50. Additionally, Kaled Macqueen, 19, was shot on the driveway at the Walker Street property and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.
Bail Conditions and Domestic Violence Background
Police have confirmed that Julian Ingram was granted bail for domestic violence charges prior to the shooting. On November 30, he was granted bail after being charged with stalking or intimidating with the intention to cause fear or physical harm, as well as common assault. It is alleged that Ingram assaulted Quinn following their separation. The 37-year-old had pleaded not guilty to these charges and was expected to appear in court on February 3. His bail conditions required him to report to local police daily and prohibited him from contacting or being within 100 metres of Quinn. A police spokesperson confirmed that Ingram had a domestic relationship with one of the victims and noted that he has never held a gun licence.
Large-Scale Police Operation Underway
There is currently a significant police presence in Lake Cargelligo, with approximately 100 officers involved in the search for the alleged murderer. NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Andy Holland has issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to stay indoors, avoid windows, and immediately report any suspicious behaviour or vehicles to the authorities. "It's a tragedy that's taken place in a very small country town, and it will have a big effect on the community," Holland stated, highlighting the profound impact of the incident on the tight-knit community.
Description of Suspect and Vehicle
Julian Ingram is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, approximately 165cm to 170cm tall, with a medium build, short dark hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen driving a Ford Ranger utility with New South Wales registration DM-07-GZ. The vehicle is described as having council signage, a metal tray back, high visibility markings on the side, and an emergency light bar on the roof. Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating Ingram, as he remains at large.
The community of Lake Cargelligo is now grappling with the aftermath of this violent episode, as law enforcement continues its relentless search for the alleged gunman. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with police instructions during this critical period.
