Man Admits Guilt in Port Macquarie Sexual Assault Case
Bilal Jdid, a 28-year-old man from Sydney, has pleaded guilty to the aggravated sexual assault of an 18-year-old teenager in Port Macquarie. The disturbing incident took place on the evening of August 13, 2023, as the young woman was on her way to meet friends to watch the FIFA World Cup semi-final match featuring the Matildas against England.
Details of the Attack Emerge in Court Documents
According to official court documents obtained by news outlets, the victim was walking near a surf club in Port Macquarie at approximately 7:50 PM when Jdid approached her on a bicycle. He initially asked the teenager for a selfie, which made her feel uncomfortable, but she agreed under the mistaken belief that he was merely a tourist.
Jdid proceeded to inquire if she was Australian and whether she was married. The victim responded that she was not married and mentioned having a boyfriend. Shortly after this exchange, the situation escalated dramatically when Jdid grabbed her by the hand and neck, repeatedly insisting that he only wanted "five-minute sex".
Violent Assault and Victim's Escape
The teenager reported to police that she screamed for help and begged Jdid to release her, but he ignored her pleas. He forcibly pushed her off the path and into nearby sand dunes, where he raped her while holding her face down in the sand. Court records indicate that the victim was in a state of shock and fear during the assault, unable to break free due to his tight grip.
The attack lasted approximately five minutes before Jdid finally released her. The victim managed to flee across an embankment and over a wire fence. Her cries for help attracted the attention of three bystanders, one of whom provided her with a ride to the local police station. Upon arrival, she exhibited visible injuries including a bloodied nose and wounds to her neck, wrists, face, and legs.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Law enforcement authorities arrested Jdid at his residence one week after the assault. During police interviews, he claimed to have met a woman he wished to start a relationship with but admitted she had not provided her phone number. When questioned about specific actions, Jdid conceded that he "possibly" kissed the victim or placed his hand under her top, though he asserted nothing further occurred.
Jdid, who arrived in Australia from Lebanon in 2022, was initially released on bail in November 2023. However, he breached the bail conditions within a month, leading to stricter bond terms. After entering guilty pleas in December 2025, he was taken into custody. Jdid has pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual bodily harm and one count of sexually touching another person without consent.
Upcoming Sentencing and Court Appearance
The case is set to proceed to sentencing at the Downing Centre District Court on April 10. The court will consider the severity of the crimes and the impact on the victim as it determines an appropriate penalty. This case highlights ongoing concerns about sexual violence and community safety in public areas.
