Police in Oxfordshire have made a significant arrest following a disturbing spate of sexual offences in the local area. A 39-year-old man from Wantage has been taken into custody on suspicion of rape and two separate sexual assaults, sending shockwaves through the community.

Tuesday's Rape in Wantage
The most serious offence took place on Tuesday evening in Wantage. At approximately 11:15pm, a woman in her late teens was walking along Grove Road when she was approached by a man on a bicycle. The assailant led her to an area behind Mably Way, where he raped her. He subsequently fled the scene on a black bicycle, leaving the victim traumatised.
Earlier Assaults in Grove
These recent events follow two earlier incidents in Grove that police are now linking to their investigation. On January 21st, a woman in her late twenties was sexually assaulted as she walked along Main Street at around 9:30pm.
Then, on January 24th, a woman in her forties was followed by a lone man as she walked along Mayfield Avenue at approximately 11:50pm. The individual crossed the road before attempting to sexually assault her, adding to the growing concern among local residents.
Police Response and Public Appeal
The arrest, which took place on Friday, represents a crucial development in what has been a rapidly progressing investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May has expressed gratitude for the public's support following an appeal made last Thursday.
