A man was arrested and transported to hospital with significant facial injuries on Thursday following a violent disturbance at Sydney's Central Station, causing alarm amongst afternoon commuters.
Chaos on the Platform
New South Wales Police were called to the CBD station shortly after 12.30pm after receiving reports that a male passenger was acting aggressively aboard a train. Upon arrival, officers apprehended the individual. A spokesperson for NSW Police confirmed to media that the man was subsequently rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.
A separate statement from NSW Ambulance provided further context, describing the patient as a 'drug-affected' male who had suffered a facial injury, which included what appeared to be a laceration. The exact circumstances of how the injury occurred remain unclear.
Commuters Witness Emergency Response
The incident unfolded on platform 21, a hub for T2 Leppington, Inner West Line, T3 Bankstown Line, and T8 Airport & South Line services. Shocked witnesses reported seeing a significant emergency presence, including multiple responders and an ambulance stretcher deployed on the platform.
Despite the dramatic scene, which saw emergency crews remain until just after 2pm, the rail network experienced minimal disruption. A spokesperson for Transport for NSW confirmed that there were no train delays as a result of the incident.
