Five individuals have been formally charged with conspiracy to burgle following a sophisticated series of 'smash and grab' raids targeting luxury retailers in central London, resulting in the theft of designer goods valued at over £500,000. The defendants, identified as Ryan Brough, aged 32, Max Tyson, 25, Oliver Ndayizeye, 35, Sonny Stringer, 30, and Harry Johnson, 24, allegedly orchestrated these crimes over a three-month period from November 2025 to January 2026.
Coordinated Attacks on High-End Stores
According to court proceedings, the group reportedly utilised a black SUV, travelling from Islington in north London into the city centre, where they deliberately rammed the vehicle into the windows of upscale designer outlets. This method enabled swift access to high-value merchandise during brazen daylight operations.
Notable Incidents and Arrests
One particularly audacious incident occurred on January 23, when the thieves are accused of stealing handbags worth approximately £30,000 from the Yves Saint Laurent boutique on Bond Street. This raid was captured on camera by bystanders, providing crucial evidence. Brough and Tyson, both residents of Islington, were apprehended later that same day and charged, with Ndayizeye, Stringer, and Johnson subsequently facing charges for their alleged involvement.
The defendants recently appeared at Inner London Crown Court via video links from various prisons, including Wandsworth, Thameside, and Chelmsford. They are collectively charged with conspiracy to burgle the Yves Saint Laurent store on November 11. Additionally, four of the accused—Brough, Tyson, Stringer, and Johnson—face a second charge related to burglaries at other luxury retailers: Bottega Veneta, END Clothing, and Loro Piana.
Prosecution Details and Modus Operandi
Prosecutor Gitana Megvine described the offences as a sequence of 'high value smash and grab commercial burglaries.' She elaborated that a total of five raids were executed, employing a stolen car in coordination with mopeds and high-powered E-bikes to facilitate quick getaways. 'Each of the cases of offending involves a vehicle which was stolen deliberately reversing through the windows of the premises,' Megvine stated, emphasising the calculated nature of the attacks.
The cumulative value of the stolen property now exceeds £500,000. Specific allegations include:
- Targeting Bottega Veneta on Old Bond Street on November 17, using a vehicle to reverse into the storefront and abscond with goods worth over £40,000.
- A similar raid at END Clothing on Broadwick Street on December 1.
- Another burglary at Loro Piana, an Italian luxury fashion brand near Harrods, on December 16, where a white Mitsubishi SUV was used to breach the store on Sloane Street, resulting in thefts valued at just under £400,000.
Legal Proceedings and Future Hearings
Judge Ian Darling has remanded all five defendants in custody pending their trial, which is scheduled for September 7. Further legal steps include a case management hearing on March 20 and a potential plea and trial preparation hearing on March 31. The case highlights ongoing concerns about organised crime targeting high-end retail sectors in urban centres.
