A group of middle school students in Hancock County, Mississippi, heroically intervened to stop a moving school bus after the driver lost consciousness. The incident occurred on 23 April when bus driver Leah Taylor, 45, suffered a sudden asthma attack and passed out behind the wheel.
Quick-Thinking Students Take Action
Surveillance footage from the bus captured the dramatic sequence of events. Five students worked together seamlessly: one grabbed the steering wheel to maintain control, another applied the brakes to bring the vehicle to a halt, and a third called emergency services. Meanwhile, a fourth student administered medication to Ms Taylor, and the group collectively worked to keep other passengers calm until help arrived.
Recognition and Recovery
Ms Taylor has since made a full recovery. The five students were honored for their bravery and quick thinking at a special pep rally held at Hancock Middle School. School officials praised their teamwork and composure under pressure, emphasizing that their actions likely prevented a serious accident.
