Officers Shot in Rapidly Unfolding Domestic Incident
Four police officers were shot on Saturday morning while responding to a domestic violence incident in rural Kansas, according to official statements. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:30 am on Saturday at a property located north of 113th Street and S Topeka Boulevard in Osage County.
Chaotic Scene as Gunfire Erupts
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) reported that the violence unfolded with shocking speed. Three Osage County deputies and one Kansas Highway Patrol trooper were shot when gunfire suddenly erupted less than ten minutes after they arrived on the scene. All four wounded officers were rushed to hospital for treatment of their injuries.
In the aftermath, police confirmed that a man was killed during the shooting, though his identity has not yet been released. Another man was injured and transported to the hospital, where he was reported to be in a stable condition.
Multi-Agency Response and Ongoing Investigation
Tony Mattivi, the KBI director, praised the swift and coordinated reaction from numerous law enforcement departments. 'Multiple, multiple law enforcement agencies responded immediately when the call went out,' Mattivi said. 'We want to thank all of those departments for their assistance this morning.'
Erik Smith, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, provided details on the officers' conditions. The three Osage County deputies were taken to Stormont Vail hospital in Topeka. The injured trooper was initially treated at the same facility before being transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center for further specialist care.
Smith explained that he was representing the Osage County Sheriff, Chris Wells, at the press conference, as the sheriff was attending to his wounded deputies. The KBI has assured the public that there is no active threat and that an investigation into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing.
