Tragic Two-Car Collision Claims Four Lives in Remote Central Queensland
Four dead in remote Queensland car crash

A horrific two-vehicle collision in remote Central Queensland has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, marking one of the region's deadliest road accidents this year.

Emergency services were called to the scene near the rural township of Alpha, approximately 500km west of Rockhampton, early Saturday morning. Police confirmed that two vehicles - a 4WD and a sedan - collided head-on along the Capricorn Highway.

Emergency Response Challenges

First responders faced significant difficulties reaching the crash site due to its isolated location. Queensland Ambulance Service reported that all four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is an absolute tragedy for all involved,” said Senior Sergeant Mark Williams of Queensland Police. “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in this devastating incident.”

Investigation Underway

Forensic crash investigators are working to determine the cause of the collision. Early reports suggest weather conditions and road quality may have been contributing factors in the remote area.

The Capricorn Highway has been temporarily closed while police examine the scene, with diversions in place for motorists. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution when travelling through rural Queensland, particularly on less-frequented roads.

Community in Mourning

Local residents have expressed shock at the tragedy, with the small Alpha community particularly affected. The identities of the victims have not yet been released pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.

This incident brings Queensland's annual road toll to 146, prompting renewed calls for improved safety measures on regional highways.
