Celtic Board Back Wilfried Nancy Despite Four Straight Defeats
Celtic keep faith with Nancy after four consecutive losses

Celtic have opted to retain manager Wilfried Nancy for now, despite the club suffering a fourth consecutive defeat under his leadership, a run of form not seen at Parkhead for nearly five decades.

Boardroom Backing Amidst Crisis

The Hoops' hierarchy has reportedly decided against parting ways with the under-fire boss immediately. This comes after a report from the Daily Record indicated there are currently no discussions among the Celtic board regarding Nancy's future, despite intense speculation following Wednesday's loss.

Nancy, who was appointed earlier this month to succeed interim manager Martin O'Neill, has overseen a disastrous start. All four of his matches in charge have ended in defeat, including the latest setback, a 2-1 loss to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.

A Historic Low and Pundit Pressure

This sequence marks the first time since 1978 that Celtic have lost four matches in a row across all competitions. The poor results have left the Glasgow giants six points behind league leaders Hearts, albeit with a game in hand.

The dismal form has inevitably drawn criticism. Former Celtic striker and prominent pundit Chris Sutton was among those to publicly question Nancy's position at the club after the defeat at Tannadice Park.

When quizzed by a Sky Sports reporter after the match on whether Celtic might not be the right fit for him, Nancy was defiant. "No. Come on," he responded. He acknowledged fan discontent but pointed to contextual factors and incremental improvements in performance, stating, "I think I am in a good direction with the players."

The Immediate Challenge Ahead

The immediate focus for Nancy and his squad is to halt the slide this weekend. Celtic face Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon in a crucial Scottish Premiership fixture, where avoiding a fifth consecutive defeat will be the absolute minimum requirement.

Nancy remains publicly committed to the task, saying, "I am happy to be here and I am going to do everything to help the team win games." For now, he retains the backing of the Celtic board, but the pressure for a positive result has never been higher.
