Four Charged with Attempted Murder After Lorry Hits Edinburgh Home

Four men have appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a skip lorry ploughed into a home in Edinburgh. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 26, on Brand Drive in the Portobello area of the city. Emergency services responded to the scene, but no one was injured, although the house sustained severe damage.

Arrests and Charges

James Bryden, 41, Tyler McMillan, 31, Jason Greig, 24, and Ross Ferguson, 39, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, June 19. They were arrested at addresses in Kilmarnock and Darvel following early morning raids on six properties in the two towns. All four were charged with attempted murder and an offence under the Road Traffic Act. Greig was committed for further examination and granted bail, while Bryden, McMillan, and Ferguson were remanded in custody and are due to appear again within eight days.

Police Statement

Detective Inspector Gavin Howat said: “Criminality affects the lives of local people on a daily basis. Operations such as these disrupt criminal activity as well as addressing the concerns raised by local people. I would like to reassure everyone that we will continue with our proactive, preventative approach to tackle crime and its associated impact.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Four men have been arrested and charged in connection with culpable and reckless conduct following a police operation on Thursday, June 18. It follows an investigation into an incident on Tuesday, May 26, when a lorry crashed into a house on Brand Drive in Edinburgh. No-one was injured in the incident. In the early hours of this morning, officers from various departments and policing divisions executed warrants across East Ayrshire. Six properties were searched by police in the Kilmarnock and Darvel areas resulting in the arrests and seizure of items in connection with the incident. The men, aged 24, 31, 39 and 41 are due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, June 19.”
