Four Arrested in Connection with Bega Park Homicide
Police have made a significant breakthrough in a complex homicide investigation on the NSW South Coast, arresting four people in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in a Bega park last month.
Gordon Kessey, 43, was found with fatal stab wounds on East Street in Bega at approximately 2am on Monday, October 6. Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, Mr Kessey tragically died at the scene.
Violent Incident and Second Victim
A second man, aged 45, was also discovered at the location suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to South East Regional Hospital in a stable condition and was later released after receiving medical treatment.
The investigation progressed when officers executed a search warrant at a unit in Bega at about 6:30pm on Thursday, October 30. During the search, police seized a knife and several electronic devices, though the property was unoccupied at the time.
Public Tip-Off and Further Evidence
A crucial development occurred when a public tip-off led detectives and police divers to search a nearby property and the Glebe Wetlands on East Street. This operation resulted in the recovery of further items relevant to the case. Two vehicles were also seized for forensic examination as part of the ongoing evidence gathering.
\nIn a coordinated operation on Thursday morning at approximately 7:30am, police arrested three men aged 29, 32, and 34, along with a 19-year-old woman at homes in Bega and Bemboka.
Police Statements and Community Impact
Detective Acting Inspector Luke Walsh addressed the media on Thursday afternoon, confirming that this has been a complex homicide investigation and that further arrests have not been ruled out. "Police will be alleging that all four were involved in the incident," Acting Inspector Walsh stated.
While confirming that the murder weapon has not yet been found, he sought to reassure the local Bega community, stating they should not fear for their safety and describing the arrests as "a good result for the local Bega community."
Victim's Life and Legacy
Shortly after Mr Kessey's death, his partner, Amanda Manton, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, writing "I loved you with all my heart" and referencing their "eleven years of us together."
Ms Manton revealed that her partner had previously struggled with drug addiction and had served time in prison, but she emphasised that he had changed his life for the better after their meeting. Charges against the four arrested individuals are still pending as the investigation continues.
