A Florida woman is facing serious legal consequences after authorities allege she deliberately ran over and killed 11 baby ducks, driven by frustration over the mess they created in her yard. Beverly Sasberry, aged 64, now confronts 11 felony counts of animal cruelty following the incident in Jacksonville, as confirmed by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in a social media announcement.
Witnesses Describe Disturbing Scene
On April 25, a couple who witnessed the event reported seeing a red Honda Accord intentionally drive over a group of ducklings. According to the sheriff's office statement, the witnesses observed the driver turning the vehicle around 'multiple times to hit them.' When confronted days later, Sasberry allegedly admitted to the couple that she killed the ducks because she was upset they had defecated in her yard.
Neighbor's Account
Kyle Hutchinson, a neighbor of Sasberry, recounted the horrifying experience to local news. He described seeing a truck drive through his neighbor's yard, then into his own, before speeding away. Upon inspection, he found dead ducks scattered around and others fleeing. Hutchinson stated that Sasberry told him she wanted to kill more ducks, repeating the phrase 'I'll do it again.' He subsequently filed a police report.
Arrest and Charges
Police identified Sasberry as the owner of the red Honda Accord after the couple provided video footage of the incident. She was pulled over on April 30 and, following an interview, was arrested on 11 counts of felony animal cruelty. The sheriff's office emphasized that animal cruelty cases are taken seriously and urged the public to report any such crimes.
