Five Teenagers Arrested Following Violent 24-Hour Crime Spree in Queensland
Queensland Police have apprehended five teenagers in connection with a violent 24-hour crime spree that terrorised residents across South Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The suspects, aged between 16 and 19, were arrested at properties in these regions on Wednesday following a series of alleged break-ins and assaults.
Stolen Vehicle and Home Invasions
The crime spree began with the theft of a white 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was stolen from a residence on Banzai Street in Kingscliff, approximately 47 kilometres south of the Gold Coast. The vehicle was taken sometime between 10pm on Sunday and 2am on Monday.
Shortly after, an unknown number of individuals allegedly forced open the front door of a home on Skyview Avenue in Rochedale, South Brisbane. At around 5.15am, the group threatened a woman inside the property with a knife. One intruder reportedly struck the woman's phone from her hand, injuring her finger, and demanded cash. After a brief search, the assailants fled in a white SUV without taking any items.
Further Incidents and Injuries
Approximately five hours later, at 10.28am, four people allegedly broke into a home on Red Cedar Crescent in Calamvale, South Brisbane, and stole a Mercedes Benz. A woman inside the home sustained injuries while attempting to prevent the vehicle from being taken.
In the early hours of Tuesday, around 2.40am, a group allegedly broke into another residence on Redbud Lane in Robina, on the southern Gold Coast. The suspects attempted to steal a white Mercedes Benz GLC300 but crashed the vehicle while reversing from the property. The owner confronted the group and was allegedly assaulted, suffering minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. The alleged thieves then fled the scene in a Jeep Cherokee.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigations
Queensland Police arrested the five teenagers—aged 17, 18, 19, and two 16-year-olds—across the South Brisbane and Gold Coast Districts on Wednesday. The arrests followed reports of four property crimes on Monday and Tuesday.
In a statement, Queensland Police indicated that investigations are ongoing into further incidents in both districts that may be linked to the group. Authorities have urged anyone with information about these events to contact Crime Stoppers.
The arrests highlight a concerning trend of youth involvement in violent property crimes, with police continuing to probe potential connections to other offences in the region.
