The tranquil streets of Ashton-in-Makerfield in Greater Manchester have been transformed into a nightly battleground, with residents living in fear as feral mobs of teenagers wreak havoc across the community. For months, this once-peaceful town has been subjected to a relentless campaign of intimidation, violence, and destruction that has left locals too terrified to leave their homes after dark.
A Community Under Siege
Groups of up to 50 young people have been massing on the high street, hurling rocks at passers-by, harassing shopkeepers, and systematically vandalising public property. The situation reached a terrifying climax last Sunday when a horde of anti-social thugs overran Gerard Street, forcing businesses to shutter early in a scene of pure pandemonium.
Café owner Helen Lawson captured 13 minutes of chilling footage that night, documenting her harrowing ordeal as she pleaded with the mob to leave her alone. "Will you leave me alone? Get out of my face!" she can be heard begging in the video, only to be mocked, followed, and assaulted. The gang snatched her phone and threw it to the ground before pelting her with ice and dousing her with a drink.
Businesses Bear the Brunt
Helen, who has operated Hel's Kitchen for seven years, described how the teenagers had been gathering outside her establishment, throwing each other against her windows, and creating an atmosphere of constant menace. "I had concerns because I've had kids throwing each other into my window before," she explained. "All I wanted to do was to ask for them to move, but I was backed up into the middle of the road and followed."
The violence extends far beyond isolated incidents. A glass bus stop was shattered to pieces, while a mother reported that her daughter had stones thrown at her. In another disturbing video, a group was seen attacking a young girl outside a local B&M store. The chaos has become so pervasive that one lifelong resident declared she now refuses to leave her house on weekend evenings.
Organised Mayhem from Beyond
Alarmingly, these disturbances appear to be organised by the yobs themselves, with many believed to be travelling from neighbouring areas including Haydock in Merseyside and Golborne near Warrington. This coordinated influx has overwhelmed local resources and created a sense of lawlessness that residents find utterly unacceptable.
Sian Jones, who runs a dance school in the area, revealed that the problem has persisted for years, with teenagers setting fires, throwing glass bottles at evacuated children, and systematically vandalising property. "I've given up making reports to the police and local councillors because no action is taken," she lamented, expressing the community's growing frustration with official responses.

Local councillor Danny Fletcher confirmed that nearby schools have identified some of the children involved in the recent incidents and are coordinating with police to increase weekend patrols.
