Death in Paradise star Daniel Ward has revealed a painful mistake he made while filming the BBC drama. The actor, who played con-artist Solomon Wilson in the latest series, admitted he underestimated the power of a tear stick used during a scene involving hot pepper sauce.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Ward explained that in the second episode, when his character and DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) were covered in hot pepper sauce, the crew used a tear stick to enhance the effect. Having never used one before, Ward applied a small amount and thought it wasn't working, only to be overwhelmed moments later.
“When you see episode two, you will see my eyes are red and streaming. That is not acting; that is the effect of being overconfident and thinking I could handle it. That stuff burns!” he said.
The revelation comes as the BBC confirmed that Death in Paradise will return for a Christmas special in December. The announcement was made on the show's official Instagram account, following the conclusion of the 15th series last month.
Fans have expressed their excitement online, with one commenting: “Before Christmas please. Best series ever!” Another added: “I actually thought this one was one of my absolute favourites.”
