The grieving family of a British man who died following a fall in Magaluf has been left devastated and furious after Spanish authorities abruptly closed the case, declaring it 'non-suspicious' without what they describe as a thorough investigation.
Tom Higgins, 20, from Wigan, tragically died in hospital after being found with critical injuries outside the Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in the early hours of June 8th. His family, however, is convinced there is more to his death than authorities are acknowledging.
'We are utterly heartbroken and feel completely let down,' expressed his mother, Josephine, 49. 'The police have told us nothing. They haven't looked at CCTV, they haven't spoken to key witnesses. How can they possibly say it's non-suspicious without doing their job?'
The family's nightmare began when they received a frantic call from Tom's friend, who was with him on the holiday. They were told Tom had fallen, but the exact circumstances remain shrouded in mystery. Despite their repeated pleas for information, the Spanish police have provided scant details.
'We are being left in the dark to grieve without any answers,' Tom's sister, Annie, 22, stated. 'He was a loving son and brother, and we cannot rest until we know the truth about what happened to him that night.'
The case has now been passed to an investigating court, but the family reports a wall of silence. Their local MP in Wigan, Lisa Nandy, has escalated the matter to the Foreign Office, demanding urgent action to support the Higgins family and secure a proper, transparent investigation.
A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed: 'We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Mallorca and are in contact with the local authorities.'
For now, Tom's family is left with unimaginable grief compounded by a desperate fight for justice, determined to uncover the truth their son deserves.
