Passengers faced significant disruption at Edinburgh Airport on Saturday following a security alert that led to the evacuation of parts of the terminal building on Friday evening. Long queues formed outside the airport after it reopened, with delays expected to persist throughout the day.

Police Scotland deployed an explosive ordnance disposal team to investigate a “potentially suspicious package” discovered at approximately 6:50 PM on Friday. The discovery prompted an immediate evacuation, the establishment of a police cordon, and road closures in the vicinity.
Airport Reopens
The airport announced its reopening in a statement at around 3:00 AM on Saturday, expressing commitment to resuming normal operations as swiftly as possible. However, officials acknowledged that the incident would have a knock-on effect, causing delays throughout the day.
Passengers arriving on Saturday encountered extensive queues that stretched outside the terminal building. The airport stated: “Following investigations by specialist teams, the airport has now reopened. We recognise the frustration this incident will have caused and thank everyone for their patience and understanding – safety will always come first.”
The airport further noted: “This incident will have knock-on impacts throughout today and staff are working hard to address these and support passengers. Operational teams are continuing to work to restore normal services as quickly as possible. Please check with your airline for the latest information on your flight.”
