Border Patrol Shooting Leaves One Critical in Arizona

A shooting involving a Border Patrol agent has left one person in critical condition near the US-Mexico border in Arizona, authorities said Tuesday.

The incident occurred in Arivaca, a community approximately 10 miles from the border. The Pima County Sheriff's Department is working with the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the investigation.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the shooting involved a Border Patrol agent and a suspect. The wounded individual is in custody, the Santa Rita Fire District confirmed.

Emergency responders treated the patient before transferring them via medical helicopter to a regional trauma centre. The condition of the suspect remains critical.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the FBI have not yet responded to requests for comment. The Associated Press has also sought information from trauma centres in Tucson.
