24 Hours in Police Custody: Most Unusual Case Airs Tonight

24 Hours in Police Custody returns to Channel 4 tonight with an episode that officers describe as one of the most unusual cases in the show's history. Originally aired in 2021, the episode titled "The No Body Murder" will be broadcast again this evening, Thursday, June 18, at 9pm.

Missing Person Case Takes Unexpected Turn

The episode focuses on the disappearance of 35-year-old Ricardas Puisys, who vanished from his home in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in September 2015. For five years, detectives led by DCI Adam Gallop investigated his disappearance, believing he had been murdered. However, a breakthrough came when officers discovered Puisys alive, hiding in a woodland area in Wisbech.

DCI Gallop from Cambridgeshire Police said: "While I always hoped we would find Ricardas alive, all the evidence led us to believe it was highly unlikely. Given the fact no-one had seen or heard from him, our searches were focused on looking for his body and those responsible for his death."

Investigation Details

The police investigation involved an urgent excavation in the woods where the missing man was believed to have been shot, as well as a journey across Europe in search of clues. Mr Puisys' last confirmed sighting was at his place of work, the Nightlayer Leek Company in Chatteris. Detectives believed he may have been a victim of serious assault in the hours leading up to his disappearance.

As officers continued to investigate, they uncovered evidence of the "dark world of modern slavery." DCI Gallop added: "He had literally vanished and no-one ever saw him again. This was one of the most unusual cases I have ever led. When we found the Facebook page it gave us hope, but it still took time and a great deal of good detective work to discover the truth behind Ricardas' disappearance and finally locate him."
