14 Treated at Farringdon Station After Chemical Smell

Fourteen people were treated at Farringdon station on Tuesday after a chemical smell was reported on a platform. Two individuals were taken to hospital, while the rest were discharged at the scene.

Emergency services, including British Transport Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade, responded to the incident. The station was evacuated and closed for several hours, causing severe delays on the Elizabeth line and Thameslink routes.

The London Fire Brigade conducted a sweep of the area and declared it safe after no elevated readings of chemical substances were detected. Firefighters have since left the scene.

British Transport Police stated that a small number of people may have come into contact with an unknown substance. Armed police attended as a precaution, which is standard procedure for significant incidents.

All lines have now reopened, but National Rail warned of possible cancellations and delays of up to 20 minutes until 5pm. Transport for London reported minor delays on the Northern line but a good service on other lines.
