A couple's involvement in organised crime was uncovered after police discovered a mobile phone at a man's house, leading to the downfall of a drug-dealing trio in the Cynon Valley.
Investigation Uncovers Drug Ring
Gerwyn Hussey, Amie Dare, and Kirk Howells were part of an organised crime group that flooded the South Wales valley with Class A drugs. The trio were identified as being involved in supplying cocaine in Aberdare as part of a broader investigation into drug supply in the Cynon Valley.
In January this year, 43-year-old Howells was found to be in possession of a phone that was sending messages offering wholesale amounts of Class A drugs for sale. Officers then went to his address, found the phone, and arrested him. During a search of the property, they discovered various bags of white powder, scales, and other drug paraphernalia.
Phone Evidence Leads to Others
Following a download of Howells' phone, officers identified that Hussey, 34, was also involved in the supply of Class A drugs across the Cynon Valley. Hussey's partner Dare, 34, was identified as a key member of the group through these messages.
The trio pleaded guilty to drug offences and were sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on June 5.
Sentences Handed Down
Hussey, from Aberdare, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and was sentenced to five years in prison. Dare, also from Aberdare, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis and was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. Howells, from Hirwaun, pleaded guilty to being in possession of cocaine and concerned in the supply of cocaine and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Police Comment on Sentencing
Following the sentencing, PC Cameron Allcock of South Wales Police said: "This group is yet another drug group who was discovered as part of our investigations into drug supply in Aberdare. Like so many others before them, their involvement in this illegal trade has resulted in them getting a lengthy prison sentence."
