Counter-terrorism police have named Joshua Kerry as the suspect in the murder investigation into former MP Ann Widdecombe. The 78-year-old was found dead at her home in Haytor on Dartmoor, Devon, on July 9.

Kerry, a 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was arrested on July 11 on suspicion of murder and the commission, preparation, or instigation of acts of terrorism. He remains in custody.

Police believe Miss Widdecombe was attacked at her bungalow on the edge of Dartmoor National Park on July 8, around 12:30pm. She had been scheduled to appear via video call on Channel 5's Matt Allwright show 30 minutes later. She messaged a producer at 12:19pm but failed to respond to a text at 12:48pm. Her body remained undiscovered for nearly 24 hours.
Tributes and Reactions
Outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer paid tribute to Widdecombe as a "highly distinguished, forthright politician" and noted "wider questions to address about the safety of politicians."
