Mersey Ferries suspended due to technical issue

All Mersey Ferries services are currently suspended due to a technical issue. The ferry operator apologised for the inconvenience after confirming the suspension at around 9am today, Saturday October 10.

Operator apologises for disruption

In an update on its website and social media pages, Mersey Ferries said: "Mersey Ferries services are currently suspended. We will provide a further update as soon as more information becomes available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The ferry operator told people to keep checking back in to see when services will be likely to resume.

Fleet and recent launch

The two ferries in operation are MV Snowdrop and MV Royal Daffodil, which entered service in 2026 to replace the decommissioned Royal Iris of the Mersey.

The £26m Royal Daffodil, which was built by Birkenhead shipbuilder Cammell Laird, officially launched with its maiden passenger voyage last month. Mersey Ferries has not confirmed what the technical issue is and what ship or ships are affected.

Services affected and weather conditions

Mersey Ferries operates a sightseeing river cruise which allows passengers to view the city's historic waterfront from the river. The ferries also operate a direct cross-river service each weekday morning and evening between Seacombe, Wirral and the Pier Head.

Mersey Ferries are operated by Merseytravel, the public transport body that provides advice to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the metro mayor. Liverpool is experiencing wet and windy spells on Saturday, with gusts expected to reach around 40mph.
