McDonald's and Netflix have announced their first-ever collaboration on Happy Meal toys, paying tribute to the streaming service's new animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From '85. The partnership launches in the United States on May 5, with a global rollout planned for later dates.
What's in the Stranger Things Happy Meal?
According to a press release issued on Friday, the new Happy Meal includes one of 12 collectible character toys based on the animated show. Two new characters will be revealed each week. The meal also comes with a Stranger Things activity book and a QR code that unlocks an interactive game where players help save Hawkins, the fictional Midwestern town from the Netflix series.
Customers can choose between a four-piece or six-piece Chicken McNuggets or a burger, accompanied by fries, a drink, and apple slices. The special packaging will be available at McDonald's restaurants across the U.S. starting May 5.
Global Launch Plans
After the U.S. debut, the Happy Meals will roll out in several other countries, including Brazil, Singapore, Norway, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Italy, and India.
About 'Stranger Things: Tales From '85'
The animated series, released on Netflix on April 23, is set in the narrative gap between the second and third seasons of the original Stranger Things. It features the return of main characters Eleven, Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Max as they solve a terrifying mystery to save Hawkins. However, the animated characters are voiced by different actors than those in the live-action series.
Previous McDonald's and Netflix Collaboration
This is not the first time McDonald's and Netflix have teamed up. In March, they launched a KPop Demon Hunters-inspired menu, featuring two limited-edition adult combo meals. The Saja Boys Breakfast Meal includes a Sausage McMuffin with Egg topped with Spicy Saja Sauce, Hash Browns, and a small soda. The HUNTR/X meal offers a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, a medium soft drink, and Ramyeon McShaker Fries seasoned with soy, garlic, sesame, and spice. The menu also features the Derpy McFlurry, which combines vanilla soft serve with berry popping pearls and wild berry sauce.
