EasyJet Reassures Passengers Amid Jet Fuel Shortage Fears

EasyJet has moved to calm customer concerns over potential flight cancellations due to a jet fuel shortage, following warnings from the International Energy Agency (IEA) that Europe has only six weeks of fuel supply left. The IEA's executive director, Fatih Birol, linked the shortage to the conflict in the Middle East, particularly Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Passengers took to social media to express anxiety about upcoming holidays, with one asking EasyJet on X: 'I have a holiday package booked with you in July, with the fuel shortage looking ever more likely. Is this likely to be cancelled?' The airline responded: 'We understand that you're concerned about the status of your holiday. We are currently not seeing disruption to jet fuel supply and engage with fuel suppliers and government to monitor the situation. We have no plans to make changes to our flying programme.'

Another customer worried about being stranded in Tunisia, and EasyJet replied: 'We appreciate the concern, our holidays are going ahead as planned. If, for whatever reason, there are any changes that may affect your holiday then our dedicated team will reach out prior to departure.' A third passenger asked about a Berlin trip in May, and the airline confirmed that someone would 'be in touch if there are any changes to [the] booking'.

An EasyJet spokesperson told the Express: 'We are currently seeing no disruption to flights and don't plan to make any changes to our flying schedule.' Chief executive Kenton Jarvis also confirmed that every airport served by the airline is 'operating as normal'. The government has echoed this sentiment, with Parliamentary Under Secretary for Transport Keir Mather stating: 'There is no immediate cause for concern relating to fuel stocks. We have visibility to the middle of May, and we have no concerns.'
