Emergency crews were scrambled to a dramatic scene in North Wales after a car careered off a bridge and plunged into a river.
The terrifying incident occurred on the A5 near Bethesda, Gwynedd, on Tuesday afternoon, sparking a major multi-agency response.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the vehicle in the water of the River Ogwen, prompting immediate calls to the emergency services.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, along with police and ambulance crews, raced to the location to mount a complex rescue operation.
Dramatic River Rescue
Firefighters, including a swift water rescue team, worked tirelessly to reach the occupant of the submerged vehicle. One man was successfully pulled from the car and handed over to the care of paramedics at the scene.
The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they treated the individual before transporting him to Ysbyty Gwynedd for further medical assessment. His current condition remains undisclosed.
Major Road Closure and Investigation
The serious collision forced authorities to close the A5 in both directions for several hours. The closure caused significant disruption for motorists travelling between Bethesda and the nearby area.
North Wales Police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the road. Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.
The road has since been reopened to traffic following the recovery of the vehicle and the initial investigation at the scene.
