Thousands of tourists have been forced to flee popular areas of Patagonia as devastating wildfires sweep across the Argentine region.
Fires Rage Out of Control
The blazes, which have been burning since Monday, 5 January 2026, are raging out of control across forested areas near the Andes mountains. The affected zone is in Argentina's Chubut province, a region famed for its stunning natural beauty.
Authorities have confirmed that at least 3,000 tourists have been evacuated from the path of the flames. The fires have already consumed more than 2,000 hectares of pristine vegetation.
Popular Tourist Destination Impacted
One of the areas hardest hit is Comarca Andina, a well-known and picturesque tourist destination. The wildfires have caused significant disruption to travel and local communities in the heart of Patagonia.
In a concerning development, officials have stated there is evidence of foul play. At least one of the fires is believed to have been started deliberately, pointing to a possible act of arson.
A Repeat of Historic Devastation
This disaster strikes just one year after Argentina endured its most severe wildfire season in three decades. Those previous fires resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of hectares of land and claimed at least one life.
The current situation in Patagonia remains volatile, with emergency services working tirelessly to contain the spread and ensure the safety of both residents and visitors caught in the crisis.
